STORIES FROM THE FIELD

“I love that the company is always encouraging us to be servant leaders and good stewards – not only in the field and the community, but in all areas of our life.”

– Apprentice

I am an electrical apprentice for MetroPower, in my fourth year of the IEC apprentice training program. I currently attend school one night a week and work full-time for the rest of the week. I have spent the last 3 years mostly at a Hospital System in downtown Atlanta, but have also worked at a number of clinics and facilities around Georgia.

My work consists of installing communication systems, electrical system, fire alarm systems, access control systems, raceways, trouble shooting, CCTV and cable TV, etc. Every day I am learning about and doing something different, which I enjoy very much. I like to be challenged, to solve problems and to find new ways to be more efficient and effective. I don’t actually call myself an electrician. I consider myself a problem solver. I solve problems for the customer – and am encouraged to challenge myself to find a better solution by my supervisor. We provide a service that’s constantly changing and is powering the future – literally. In the end, our work outlives us. This is why I strive for excellence in anything I do, and it’s a common theme for the rest of the company.

I love that the company is always encouraging us to be servant leaders and good stewards – not only in the field and the community, but in all areas of our life. I see a lot of servant leadership – not just in management, but among my coworkers and apprentices. Everyone here is willing to lend a helping hand, no matter what the problem might be. I love the people. I see a lot of humility and wisdom in the field. There are very smart and passionate people within this company that are great at what they do – but remain humble nonetheless.

When I joined the company, I immediately loved the focus on employees and the willingness to invest in us. The continuing education opportunities and the entrepreneurial spirit truly encourage us all to grow and learn as the company grows. We are challenged to become the best version of ourselves that we can be. If you want to be a leader and take on that challenge and responsibility, you are empowered to do so. I am also a person who is inspired to achieve by life itself. The odds of being a human being are 1 in 400 Trillion. You have one shot at life and tomorrow isn’t guaranteed to anyone. There is a saying “how tall will a tree grow? As tall as it possibly can”. I want to grow as tall and as strong as I can in all areas of my life while encouraging and helping others to do the same.
